A DEFENSIVE TOWER BUILT IN THE YEAR 1000

The Torre dei Nanni is a tower of uncertain origins that was built as a sighting structure to give the inhabitants of the Castello village the opportunity to defend themselves against imminent enemy attacks.

It was used as a real defensive system made up of several towers located throughout the territory. In particular, the Torre dei Nanni was located between the Torre della Mombrina, in the north and the Torre di Sant’Antonio Vecchio in the south, in Borgo Castello.

It was certainly similar to the other watchtowers of the time, isolated from other structures, without external stairs.

Its entrance had to be fairly narrow, very high from the countryside level and reachable using a ladder to be retracted inside the tower at night or in case of danger.

The Tower of the Dwarfs served as a shelter for settlers and as an alarm outpost.

The position was ideal, since in the east the view stretched beyond the Rio Fiumma on the ridges of Montebudello and Motta.

To the north we spied the Monticelli emerging from the Selava della Lovara and the origins from the Claudia caravan road, as well as those of the low river plain of the Panaro.

THE FIORINI FAMILY INVESTS ON THE TOWER

In 2009 we learned of this farm, in this hilly area south of the province of Modena surrounded by vineyards and immediately we were so fascinated by it, that we decided that this place that is Savignano sul Panaro, would have become our lifestyle choice.

The company covers 12 hectares of vineyards, exposed for almost 4/5 to the south / east where Pignoletto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Barbera, Sangiovese and Riesling and Lambrusco di Grasparossa di Castelvetro are grown.

And so it is here that in 2011 we decided to build our new winery conceived with eco-sustainability and low environmental impact criteria.

INTEGRATION WITH THE WINES OF THE BOLOGNESE HILLS

Our historicity has always been linked to the production of Lambrusco wines, but here in Savignano in 2011 the new adventure begins, thus expanding the range, also on the production of the new line of the ‘Torre dei Nanni’ brand of the Colli Bolognesi wines.

The first born was the sparkling Pignoletto ‘Spazzavento’, followed immediately after by the upper Pignoletto ‘Gendinella’, the Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Cà Mombrina’, the Barbera / Merlot ‘I Contrari’, the Barbera “La Torre”, and lastly the Cabernet Sauvignon / Sangiovese “Poggio of the escape”.

BEAUTIFUL MEETING FOR WALKS IN THE VINEYARD

The Torre dei Nanni is a fantastic and suggestive place to appreciate, in any season, the beauty of the hills between Modena and Bologna.

We organize guided tours both in the Cellar and in the Torre dei Nanni to make our guests understand the dedication and passion we put into the production of excellent artisan wines.
